nan bread

A simple recipe for naan bread:

Ingredients:

- 2 cups all-purpose flour

- 1 teaspoon active dry yeast

- 1 teaspoon sugar

- 1/2 teaspoon salt

- 1/2 cup warm milk

- 1/4 cup plain yogurt

- 2 tablespoons melted butter

- Garlic or cilantro (optional, for flavor)

Instructions:

1. In a small bowl, combine the warm milk, sugar, and yeast. Stir gently and let it sit for about 5 minutes until the yeast becomes frothy.

2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture, yogurt, and melted butter.

3. Mix the ingredients until a dough forms. Then, transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead it for about 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. You can also use a stand mixer with a dough hook attachment for this step.

4. Place the dough in a greased bowl and cover it with a clean kitchen towel. Let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours or until it doubles in size.

5. Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release any air bubbles. Divide the dough into 6-8 equal-sized portions and shape them into balls.

6. Preheat a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium-high heat.

7. Take one dough ball and roll it out into an oval or teardrop shape, about 1/4 inch thick. If desired, you can sprinkle some minced garlic or chopped cilantro on top of the naan at this point and lightly press it into the dough.

8. Place the rolled naan on the preheated skillet and cook for about 1-2 minutes until bubbles start to form on the surface. Flip it over and cook the other side for an additional 1-2 minutes until it gets golden brown spots.

9. Remove the naan from the skillet and brush it with melted butter. You can also wrap it in a clean kitchen towel to keep it warm while you cook the remaining naans.

10. Repeat the process with the remaining dough balls until all the naans are cooked.

Serve the freshly made naan bread warm with your favorite curries or dips. Enjoy.
