Recipe for a popular Chinese dish called Kung Pao Chicken:
Ingredients:
- 1 lb (450g) boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into small cubes
- 1/2 cup unsalted peanuts
- 1/2 cup diced bell peppers (red or green)
- 1/2 cup diced zucchini
- 1/2 cup diced carrots
- 1/2 cup diced celery
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, minced
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (adjust according to your spice preference)
- Salt to taste
- Sliced green onions for garnish
Instructions:
1. In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, rice vinegar, hoisin sauce, cornstarch, and crushed red pepper flakes. Set aside.
2. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the chicken cubes and stir-fry until they are browned and cooked through. Remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside.
3. In the same skillet, add the minced garlic and ginger. Stir-fry for about 1 minute until fragrant.
4. Add the diced bell peppers, zucchini, carrots, and celery to the skillet. Stir-fry for about 3-4 minutes until the vegetables are slightly tender.
5. Return the cooked chicken to the skillet and add the peanuts. Pour the sauce mixture over the chicken and vegetables. Stir well to coat everything evenly.
6. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until the sauce has thickened and everything is heated through. If the sauce is too thick, you can add a little water to thin it out. Season with salt to taste.
7. Remove from heat and garnish with sliced green onions.
Your Kung Pao Chicken is now ready to be served! You can enjoy it with steamed rice or noodles.
