Ingredients:


- 2 cans (15 ounces each) of navy beans or pinto beans, drained and rinsed

- 4 slices bacon, chopped

- 1 small onion, finely chopped

- 1/2 green bell pepper, finely chopped

- 1/2 cup ketchup

- 1/4 cup molasses

- 2 tablespoons brown sugar

- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard

- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

- 1 teaspoon liquid smoke

Instructions:


1. Your oven should be preheated to 350°F (175°C).


2. Cook the chopped bacon in a large skillet over medium heat until crispy. The bacon should be removed from the skillet but the grease should remain in the pan.


3. Add the chopped onion and green bell pepper to the same skillet that has the bacon grease. They should be cooked for 5-7 minutes on medium heat, or until they are soft and slightly caramelized.


4. Cooked bacon, sautéed onion and green bell pepper, drained beans, ketchup, molasses, brown sugar, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, liquid smoke, salt, and pepper should all be combined in a large mixing bowl. To ensure that each ingredient is distributed evenly, thoroughly stir.


5. Move the blend to a baking dish or a cast-iron skillet. Cover the dish with foil or a top.


6. Heat in the preheated broiler for 45 minutes to 60 minutes, or until the beans are delicate and the flavors have merged.


7. To allow the top to slightly caramelize, remove the foil or lid and continue baking for an additional 15 minutes.


8. Before serving, remove the beans from the oven and allow them to cool for a few minutes.
