Recipe for making brown bread:
Ingredients:
- 2 cups whole wheat flour
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup cornmeal
- 1/2 cup oats
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 cups buttermilk
- 1/4 cup molasses
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
Instructions:
1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x5-inch loaf pan and set it aside.
2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the whole wheat flour, all-purpose flour, cornmeal, oats, brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Mix well to combine all the dry ingredients.
3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, molasses, and vegetable oil until well blended.
4. Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour the wet mixture into it. Stir until just combined, making sure not to overmix the batter.
5. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top with a spatula.
6. Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for about 50-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
7. Once baked, remove the bread from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Then transfer the loaf to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.
Enjoy your homemade brown bread! You can serve it with butter, jam, or any other toppings of your choice.
